Jason Menzel from Lake Preston was the grand prize winner from the January 2023 Four Lakes Association kids ice fishing derby, in which 132 kids took part. Jason chose one day of open water fishing with guide Todd Merideth, instead of an ice fishing castle for a day. Jason also picked his brothers Tade, Jax and Dad KC to go along. Todd helped Jason land a 24” walleye at Lake Thompson. Jason said it’s the biggest fish he has ever caught.

Kingsbury County had some wild weather last Thursday night. Four miles north of town, Jack Hasche caught a video and pictures of a tornado coming down while a rainbow also appeared. Hasche posted it on his social media and has had The Weather Channel, CNN, Global News, Reuters Eyewitness, Weather National, FOX Weather (and now the Kingbury Journal) all reach out to use the video and picture. On Aug. 4 at Kingsbury County Achievement Days, Arnold and the late Carol Wienk received an award for their dedication to 4-H. They helped keep records and hand out ribbons for many, many years during the county fair. Arnold participated in Kingsbury County 4-H when he was younger. All five of Arnold and Carol's daughters exhibited at Achievement Days as did nine of their grandchildren and five of their great-grandchildren, with more coming up as they get old enough to join 4-H.

John and Marlys Vincent were the recipients of this year's Lake Preston Chamber/4 Lakes Forward Outstanding Community Citizens award.
