1967: The last class in Esmond


The Bornitz family enjoyed a birthday party for Jonny Bornitz, son of Travis and Michelle Bornitz.

Charemon and Annette Dunham attended the Iroquois Community Club meeting on May 3. On May 4, they attended the Iroquois American Legion meeting, and on May 5, they attended the Iroquois School Spring Concert.

On May 15, Kathy DeJong, Missy Van Diepen and children visited Adaline Reilly. On May 8 Adaline attended the second birthday party of Kash Keating in Iroquois.

The Wehlanders and the Clendenings attended the Iroquois School Concert on May 5 to watch Rosalie Wehlander. The Wehlanders and Clendenings attended the USD School of Law Hooding Ceremony for Erik Wehlander on May 6. On May 8, they attended the DWU Graduation Ceremony for Hannah Wehlander. The Wehlanders and Clendenings enjoyed a birthday meal for Jeanette Clendening’s 80th birthday in Mitchell on May 15. Also attending were Perianne and Mike from Woonsocket, Katee Olinger and children from Woonsocket, Jeff Clendening family from Ethan, Roy Clendening from Belle Fourche and Hannah Wehlander from Mitchell, S.D.

Joanne Schlueter, Marilyn Skyberg and Rita Anderson went to Laramie, Wyo., to attend the graduation ceremony for Rita’s grandson Andrew Anderson at the University of Wyoming. Andrew is Joanne and Marilyn’s grandnephew. The week prior to this, the three Aughenbaugh sisters went to Tuscaloosa, Ala., to attend the graduation ceremony for Rita’s granddaughter Jordyn Penney at the University of Alabama. Jordyn is Joanne and Marilyn’s grandniece.


The last children to attend school in Esmond #54 in 1966-1967 included: Back row – Steve Lorenz, Greg Thompsen, Gary Lorenz, Patsy Lorenz and Barb Thompsen. Front Row – Arlene Schied, Perianne Clendening, Kristy Lorenz, Jeannine Schied. Teacher: Ida Burke.
