Best historic town in the U.S.?

De Smet is currently in 3rd place in the U.S. — votes needed daily until Oct. 25

De Smet was honored by the USA Today Network as one of twenty towns in the running for the Best Historic Town in the United States. Now is the time for everyone to vote online every day for De Smet to win the top spot.

Granbury, Texas, population 10,958, is currently in first place in the poll. Taos, New Mexico, population 5,971, is in second place. These rankings could change daily.

The 10 Best Readers' Choice Awards highlight the best of the best in contests covering categories such as destinations, food and drink, hotels and things to do. Nominees in all categories are chosen editorially by a panel of experts. Criterion for the award is a population fewer than 25,000.

Readers can vote once per category, per day. De Smet is the only South Dakota Town selected in any of the categories.

“It would be awesome to be selected as the Best Historic Town in the US and would bring so many more visitors to our community to help all of our businesses,” Rita Anderson, local De Smet Development Corporation Director, reported. “There are so many reasons why we need everyone to vote and then keep on voting each day. Many of the communities selected are larger with a great deal more people from their community to vote for them. Once you get the site to vote on your phone or computer, it is easy to get back to it every day. This is a community effort that we can all be a part of to make it happen. Please spread the word to your friends and relatives outside of the area to vote for us, also! Let’s become the Best Historic Small Town in the United States … Vote!”
