After many cancellations and postponements, De Smet recently hosted an invitational at Kingsbury County Country Club.
De Smet golfers took to the course April 27 at the Kingsbury County Country Club. The nine-hole course is a par 36.
In the Boys’ Team Finals, eight teams competed. De Smet took second place with a score of 248, just three points away from the first-place team. James Valley Christian won the boys’ tournament with a score of 245, and Wessington Springs took third place with a team score of 261.
In the individual competition, there were 40 participants with De Smet placing three players in the top ten. Cody Cavanaugh took third place with a score of 79, just seven over par. Rett Osthus took sixth place with a 12 over par for a score of 84 and Ethan McCune placed 8th with a score of 85 and 13 strokes over par.
Tanner Preheim from Deuel took first place; he was four over par with a score of 76. Second place was awarded to Jevin Goertz from James Valley Christian with a score of 78, just six over par.
The Girls’ Team Finals saw five teams competing. The Lady Bulldogs placed fourth with a team score of 329, which was 37 strokes behind first place. Miller took first place in the Finals with a score of 292, while Sioux Valley came in second with one stroke behind first, a 293. James Valley Christian had a score of 324 and placed third.
There were 24 participants in the individual competition. De Smet did not place in the top ten. Jayce Pugh from Miller took first place with a score of 87 which was 15 over par. Julia Steffensen from Sioux Valley was 18 over par with a score of 90 that earned her second place. Third place was awarded to Laryn Stevens from Sioux Valley. She was 25 over par and a score of 97.
