Bulldogs take Diver doubleheader


The De Smet Boys Basketball team hosted the Lake Preston Divers Thursday night at the Dog Pound and came away with a lopsided 88-25 victory to run their season record to 9-1.

The Bulldogs put the game out of reach early, shooting a blistering 70% from the field in the first half, giving them a commanding 59-11 lead by halftime.

Coach Jeff Gruenhagen played his bench most of the second half, giving him the opportunity to give the entire team some playing time.

The Bulldogs had a very balanced scoring attack with five players reaching double figures. Rett Osthus led all scorers with 18 points, followed closely behind by Kalen Garry with 16. Tory Holland, Damon Wilkinson and George Jensen added 10 points each. Colt Wilkinson led the rebounding department with seven rebounds.

Josh McMasters led Lake Preston in scoring with nine points. Riley Casper had seven points and seven rebounds.

De Smet won the Junior Varsity game, 53-22, behind George Jensen’s 16 points. Tom Aughenbaugh was also in double figures with 10 points.

The Bulldogs will be playing in the 40th Annual Hanson Boys Corn Palace Classic Saturday night in Mitchell at 8:30 p.m. against Class B #2 ranked White River.
