Dale Haufle (91) died January 13, 2020 at the Good Samaritan Nursing home in De Smet, S.D.
Dale Ernest Haufle was born on a farm southwest of Lake Preston on September 26, 1928 to Bertha (Nelson) and Ernest Haufle. He went to rural school and then graduated from Lake Preston High School in 1946, Dale lived on the farm which was his grandfather’s homestead for 84 years before moving into Lake Preston. He farmed that land and also worked for many neighbors over this time.
He married Eva Mathison on August 23, 1974. From this union he was blessed with 3 step-children, Carol Cavanaugh, Greta Clements-Drew, and Terry Mathison and numerous step-grandchildren. After 33 years of marriage, Eva passed away in 2007.
Dale was a kind-hearted and fun-loving soul. He was known as a trickster and always loved a good joke. He looked out for everyone and was always willing to lend a hand wherever he was needed.
Dale is survived by his sister Ruby Malde of Santa Rosa, CA, his step-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews who loved him dearly.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his sisters Beverly Stevens and Lola Wennblom and their spouses, his step-daughters Carol and Greta and many dear relatives and friends.
Services will be on September 26, 2020. Burial will be at the Hill Church (Trinity Lutheran) west of Oldham, SD at 1:00 pm followed by a memorial service at the Lake Preston Lutheran Church at 2:00 pm.
