De Smet is the place to be for RuralX

Posted

If you are passionate about your rural community, RuralX is for you. RuralX is a one-day virtual conference that brings together community leaders and spirited people who care about their community and think differently about rural life. It is being held virtually for the second year in a row. De Smet is fortunate to have the De Smet Event Center selected as a location for a Watch Party for this year’s event, and everyone is invited to join the fun. It will be held Wed., June 16 from 10:45 a.m. to 5 p.m.

This high-energy opportunity features inspirational speakers, time to network and be social with like-minded people and bold breakout sessions for people to discuss what matters now. It is a space for people to explore ideas and discuss the topics that are relevant in your community.

You do not need to be from the De Smet area to attend the Watch Party. Everyone is encouraged to participate. Registration is required. A limited number of tickets at no cost are available. Please call Rita Anderson, 605-203-0216, for more information on tickets. The schedule of events and registration may be viewed at www.dakotaresources.org/ruralx.

Authors of the Bestselling Book, "Our Towns: A 100,000-Mile Journey into the Heart of America," Jim and Deb Fallows from Washington, DC, will be guest speakers for the event. Their book that tells of the Fallows’ visits to communities across the United States is a remarkable portrait of America and how the rise of civic and economic reinvention is transforming small cities and towns across the country. Deborah Fallows has written for The Atlantic, National Geographic, Slate, The New York Times and The Washington Monthly. James Fallows is a staff writer for The Atlantic. He has written 12 books and won the National Book Award, the National Magazine Award and a documentary Emmy.

Additional speakers featured in break-out sessions during the day-long session are Carlos Bárcenas, Founder of I Choose Purple; Julie Garreau, Executive Director for the Cheyenne River Youth Project; Nicole J Phillips, Speaker & Author of "The Negativity Remedy" and Melody Warnick, Author of "This is Where You Belong."

“The uplifting speakers related to me personally and identified with my everyday life,” states Amy Kruse, AR Manager at Legend Seeds who has attended the Rural Summit previous years. “You can have a full, rich and busy life in a rural town.”

RuralX is not your typical conference. Here, the focus is on rural economic and community development through innovative methods, inspiring speakers, OpenX forums and more. Connect with a network of rural “thinkers and doers” during RuralX, a one-day virtual rural economic development and community development event. Discover new ideas, tools and processes to help you be a catalyst of change in your own rural community.
