James Schmidt, author of “One Man’s Grief and a Long Walk,” will be at Ward’s Store on Nov. 27 to talk about his book.
Schmidt, who lost his first wife to cancer, has written this book to help people understand that they should never endure grief alone. It is a journey where one needs friends, family and especially, faith.
Schmidt and his son walked the 100-mile Mickelson Trail in the Black Hills, and in his book, he draws comparisons with the trek to going through the stages of grief. The long walk ended, but the journey of grief continues. Schmidt believes one never gets over the loss; it just becomes less painful.
A father of two and grandfather of three, Schmidt has remarried. He wants to share his experience to help people with grief. His book was published in 2021 and is available on Amazon and at Ward’s Store.
