Divers’ season comes to a close



On Monday night, the Lake Preston Divers saw their season come to an end at the hands of the Hitchcock-Tulare Patriots in the first round of region play. The Divers led at the end of the first three quarters before losing 62-57.

At the end of the first quarter, the Divers led 22-14 and were up by four at halftime with a score of 33-29. They built on their lead in the 3rd quarter, finishing it with a score of 50-42, but the Patriots outscored the Divers 20-7 in the 4th quarter to come back to win by five.

Jasper Denison led the Divers with 22 points, and fellow senior Carter Malone added 19 points. The Divers shot 23/50 from the field and were 7/20 from the free throw line. Denison shot 69% from the field and went 3/8 from the free throw line while Malone went 4/10 from the free throw line. Malone also had 4/7 assists on the night.

Jackson Maynard led the Patriots with 19 points, and teammate TJ Salmen scored another 15 points.

A difference in rebounds played a large part in the final score with the Divers out-rebounded 20-35. Malone had nine rebounds while Denison pulled down eight.

Carter Binger had 10 rebounds, and Alex Clark had seven rebounds for the Patriots. Patriot rebound stats are unofficial as they were kept by this writer.

This game marked the end of a long journey for the four seniors who have played together since the 4th grade. Thank you to Jasper Denison, Tate Larsen, Carter Malone and Rhett McMasters for dedication to the athletic program of the Lake Preston Divers and for the many memories.
