Donna Mae Ogren, age 86, of De Smet, S.D., passed away on Wed., March 24, 2021, at her home. Public visitation will be on Tues., March 30, 2021, from 5-7 p.m. at the Crawford-Osthus Funeral Chapel in De Smet, S.D. Face masks are encouraged.
Donna Mae Ogren was born May 9, 1934, in rural Lake Norden, S.D., to Jens and Christine (Jensen) Madsen, the youngest of nine children. She graduated from Bryant High School in 1952. Donna moved to New Jersey to live with her sister while Allan was serving in the Korean War.
She married Allan George Ogren on Feb. 14, 1954. The couple settled north of De Smet where they would live out the majority of their lives on the Diamond A Ranch. They raised three children and moved east of De Smet.
After Allan passed on Sept. 2, 2013, Donna moved back into the town of De Smet and has resided there since. Donna was a member of the American Lutheran Church, a board member for the De Smet Depot Museum and a member of the Limousin Cattle Organization. She loved playing cards as well as other games, traveling and music. A big part of her life was cooking and sharing.
She is survived by her three children, Jim (Mary) Ogren and Randy Ogren of De Smet, and Valarie (Linn) Vig of Claire City, S.D.; eight grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; one sister-in-law, Lorraine Madsen of Menahga, Minn., and her very special nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; four brothers, Vernal, Lloyd, Howard and Ronald; and four sisters, Irene, Lucille, Della and Hazel.
