Elsa Fetzer, 93, De Smet, died Tuesday, April 28, 2020, at Good Samaritan Nursing Home, De Smet, S.D. A private family funeral service was held on May 1, 2020.
Elsa was born in Kronau, Germany, on May 19, 1926, to Rudolf Max and Lena (Moch) Hees. Her childhood was normal, but during her teens, Germany was at war, and times were hard.
At the end of the war, she met an American G.I., Edwin D. Fetzer, who could speak German because of his German descent. They married three years later on June 19, 1948, and her great adventure began—coming to America. The couple had three children: Linda, Edwin R. and Theresa.
Elsa enjoyed gardening, crocheting and knitting, but her greatest enjoyment was being with her family.
She is survived by her daughters: Linda (Mark) Harris, De Smet, S.D. and Theresa Nordin, Piedmont, S.D.; 10 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Edwin D. Fetzer; and her son, Edwin R. Fetzer.
