Francis Callahan, age 92, of Colman, S.D., passed away peacefully on Sun., March 21, 2021, at his home.
Mass of Christian Burial was on Friday at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church with Father Anthony Urban & Father Bob Vinslauski. Visitation was on Thursday at Rustand-Weiland Funeral Chapel. Burial was at St. Thomas Cemetery.

Francis Joseph Callahan was born Aug. 23, 1928, near Madison, S.D. to Patrick “Leo” and Stella (O’Connor) Callahan. He graduated from Rutland High School in 1947. In 1948, he entered into the U.S. Army National Guard and was honorably discharged in 1951.
On June 20, 1953, he married Patricia O’Hare at the Cathedral of St. Joseph in Sioux Falls. They farmed in the area, and in 1960, they moved to a farm 3 ½ miles NW of Colman and remained there until his passing. Francis loved being a farmer and living on the farm. He would often take walks around the farm to inspect the crops and fencing. He was a dairy farmer for 35 years and retired from that part of farming in 1995. He farmed the land a few more years until his grandson, Zach, began farming the land on his own from 2011 to 2020.
Grateful for his life are his children, Jim (Charla), Tim (Cindy), Kathy (Jeff) Fouberg, Maureen (Dick) Haas, John (Kate), Coleen (Jeff) Sutton, Eileen (Bryan) Vielmette, Kevin (JoAnn), Doreen (Dave) Bendt, Patrick (Barb), Tom and Char (Vic) Raley; 21 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Pat; two brothers, Vince and Tom and infant sister.
