The Lake Preston Divers are undefeated. They got off to their best start in recent years by traveling to James Valley Christian and defeating the Lady Vikings in four sets. The Divers lost the first set 20-25 but came back strong and won the next three 25-21, 25-20 and 25-20. They played relentlessly, never giving up after a miscue. That proved to be the difference maker in coming back to win three straight sets.
“I am proud of how hard the girls have worked so far,” commented Bailee Ramstad, Divers’s first year head coach. “Happy to get that first win and look forward to more.”
Offensive stats leaders were Annika Nelson with ten kills and six serving aces and Faith Steffensen with twelve kills. Additional serving aces were credited to Kate Ries and Milli Waikel, each with three. Two of Waikel’s serving aces put the exclamation point on the win, as they were the final two points of the match.
Defensively, the Divers had several ladies in double digit digs on the evening. Ava Malone led the charge with 20, while Faith Steffensen, Jocelyn Steffensen and Nelson were all in the mix. Nelson and Faith Steffensen both had a couple of successful blocks during the match as well.
The Lady Divers hosted the Lady Chiefs from Iroquois-Doland for their home opener last Thursday evening. The Divers continued in their winning ways in a 3-0 defeat of the Chiefs with set scores of 25-18, 25-22 and 25-8.
The Divers came out strong and never lost momentum the whole night. The bright spots for the Lady Divers continue to be their encouraging attitude and teamwork.
Offensively, the Divers mixed it up with Faith Steffensen and Marissa Rober leading in kills with eight and seven respectively. Other contributors to the well-balanced attack were Annika Nelson, Ava Malone and Morgan Curd. Jocelyn Steffensen had twelve set assists with Curd helping on three more.
The defensive leader of the evening was sophomore Faith Steffensen, with three resounding blocks and four crucial digs. Rober also added four digs to the match.
The Divers are set to host the always tough Deubrook Lady Dolphins on Aug. 31 in Lake Preston.
