Praying for lifted blinders

"And Elisha prayed, and said, Lord, I pray thee, open his eyes, that he may see. And the Lord opened the eyes of the young man; and he saw: and, behold, the mountain was full of horses and chariots of fire round about Elisha."
2 Kings 6:17

This young man was truly terrified. He saw the enemy and their great numbers. He was at a loss. When he voiced his concern to Elisha, the prophet comforted him by telling him that there are more for them than against them. Elisha then immediately prays for God to open the eyes of the young man to see the angelic army ready to fight for them. Even though Elisha told him the truth that should have given him comfort and courage, it was not until the prophet asked God to open the young man's eyes, did he see what Elisha was talking about.

There are so many walking in this world just like this young man. They have been told the truth over and over, yet they still walk this life defeated. We try so hard to tell them and show them how great God is, yet we feel like we cannot get through to them. When you hit that wall, do like Elisha and pray that God will open their eyes!

Too many times we forget to pray and expect things to be done just because we put in the work. How prideful are we to think that our words are enough to show someone who God is! We must remember to rely on Him, not our own efforts. My prayer is that God will open the eyes of those who don't believe, in spite of my attempts.

“In whom the God of this world hath blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto them.2 Corinthians 4:4
