Our featured resident this month is Helen Jones. Jones was born on a farm near Hetland on January 12, 1935, to Kenneth and Hazel Hesby; she is the only living sibling left. She had two brothers, Keith and David, and one sister, Joanne. She has so many great memories growing up with them on the farm.
Jones went to school in Hetland from 1st-6th grade then came to Lake Preston to finish the rest of her years. She graduated from Lake Preston in 1953. She was involved in music and band in high school, but her favorite class was home economics.
Jones added that during her high school years, she enjoyed attending school activities such as basketball, football and theater.
She married her classmate, Wes Jones, in 1955. They have four children Tamela, Steve, Bruce and Shelia.
Jones worked at the bakery up town in Lake Preston. In 1980, she became the head cook at LPHS and continued doing so for 17 years. That is no surprise because she enjoys baking and cooking. Her favorite thing to cook is meat, potatoes and gravy. Jones is known to her family as "A VERY GOOD COOK."
You can find her very content with a book in her hand and enjoying all that the Silver Plains has to offer.
