Residents welcome visitors

Curt Wehlander celebrated his birthday recently with a family dinner. Erik Wehlander was home from the University of South Dakota at Vermillion for a week. He will begin his second year of law school this fall. Hannah Wehlander attended a friend’s wedding Saturday in Watertown. She visited her parents and grandparents before returning to Dakota Wesleyan University in Mitchell to begin her senior year. Rosalie Wehlander attended volleyball camp in Iroquois. Curt and Erik Wehlander attended the National International show Saturday in Huron.

Bret Anderson from Wray, Colorado and Melissa Anderson from Cambridge, Massachusetts spent the weekend with mother and grandmother, Rita Anderson. They attended the wedding of Morgan Aughenbaugh and Logan DeRungs from Ramona that was held Saturday, August 8, in Huron. Melissa will be attending Harvard Law School in Cambridge beginning August 24.

Visitors at the Esmond United Methodist Church this week were from Ramona, Watertown and Indiana. The signers from Ramona and Indiana said that Esmond was the place to visit in Kingsbury County during social distancing.

Marlin and Jeanette Clendening attended the Jerauld County 4-H days to watch their great granddaughter Tenley Olinger show sheep. Marlin Clendening exhibited some McCormick Deering memorabilia at the National International show last weekend in Huron.

Annette and Charmon Dunham report that the annual Iroquois Sports Day was discussed at a recent Iroquois American Legion meeting.

History Note

In 1901 an artesian well was dug northeast of Esmond with water being found at 930 feet, a flow of 60 gallons per minute . The water temperature was 70 degrees.
