Roselyn Elsie Sjolie, 89, of Lake Preston, passed away Tues., June 7, 2022, at the Sanford Hospital in Sioux Falls.

Roselyn was born Aug. 8, 1932, in Badger, the daughter of Clarence and Lillie Smith. She grew up and attended school in Badger and graduated from Arlington High School.

She married Everett Malone in 1951. They were blessed with two children, Douglas and Gary Malone. She married Jerome Sjolie on June 7, 1963, and was blessed with two more children, Mark Sjolie and Jan (Sjolie) Lemme.

Her children and grand/great-grandchildren were the pride of her life. She was so proud of all of them and always showed them how much she loved them. She always made sure to get a kiss in with every hug, and her little winks of love will be cherished forever. “Love you to the moon and back” was often said to her grandchildren.

Everyone will remember Roselyn as being one of the hardest-working women. At the age of 89, she finally officially retired from her tree/house spraying business. She had various occupations, ranging from electrician to caring for those in the nursing home, to her life-long passion of Roselyn’s Floral and Greenery.

Her love for flowers was shown in her work, in countless weddings and countless arrangements, which always brought cheer and happiness to those who received them. She was also the first woman elected to the city council in Lake Preston, which was such an honor for her.

Roselyn is survived by her children, Douglas (Sandy) Malone of Arlington, Gary (Loretta) Malone and Mark (Penny) Sjolie of Lake Preston and Jan (Jody) Lemme of Lake Poinsett; a special friend, Cornelius (Junior) Grogan; siblings, Marilyn (Darrel) Modica, Carolyn (Warren) Casper, Verlyn Devries and Eldon (Jami) Smith; eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Clarence and Lillie Smith; her brother, Arden Smith and husbands, Everett Malone and Jerome Sjolie.

A Celebration of Life was held on Saturday at the Lake Preston Lutheran Church, with visitation held prior to the service.
