Ruth Marie Muilenburg, 96, De Smet, died Sunday, March 1, 2020, at Dougherty Hospice House, Sioux Falls, S.D. The visitation was held at Osthus Funeral Home, De Smet S.D., with the Reverend Jonathan Dolan officiating at her place of membership, the American Lutheran Church, De Smet. The burial took place at De Smet Cemetery.
Ruth Marie Geyer was born August 20, 1923, to Otto and Martha (Gehm) Geyer in Manchester, S.D. She grew to adulthood in the Manchester area and graduated from Manchester High School.
On January 13, 1944, she was united in marriage to Fred Muilenburg in Luverne, Minn. The couple farmed in the Manchester area for a short time and then managed J. L. Healy Ranch for 18 years. They moved to De Smet, where they owned and operated the Terrace Park Dairy and later Muilenburg’s Commercial Feed Lot, where Ruth was the bookkeeper.
Ruth played the piano and enjoyed playing as an orchestra with her husband and her brothers, Art and Robert. She enjoyed playing cards weekly with her local friends and spending time with her family.
Ruth is survived by one son, Gene Muilenburg, Burnsville, Minn.; one daughter, Deanna McKibben, Aberdeen S.D.; three grandchildren: Brent (Allyson) Muilenburg, Troy McKibben, and Julie Agrimson; six great-grandchildren; and one brother, Art (Barbara) Geyer, De Smet.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Fred; two brothers: Richard and Robert; her daughter in-law, Sylvia; an infant sister and several nieces and nephews.
