The Lady Bulldogs, seeded sixth in Region 3B post-season play, had a bye the first round of tournament play. De Smet traveled to Wolsey-Wessington to take on the #3 Region 3B seeded Warbirds for round two on Tues., Feb. 23.
It was a quick ballgame back and forth, with the Lady Bulldogs trailing the Warbirds the first half. De Smet played good defense but could not get their shots to fall. The Warbirds were strong on the rebounds from De Smet’s missed baskets.
Coach Pitts and the Lady Bulldogs came out in the 3rd quarter with determination to turn the game around. De Smet worked the ball around well, looking for the shot, and the defense came up big, making some key stops to tie the game by the end of the quarter.
At the start of the 4th quarter, the Lady Bulldog offense came out hot, making some really good shots. They continued to be aggressive on both defense and offense. With under one minute left to play, the Warbirds put De Smet, who went 6/6 in the last 30 seconds, on the line for free throws, and the Lady Bulldogs were able to wrap up the win.
The Lady Bulldogs were led by Kennadi Buchholz with 16 points and 11 rebounds, Emma Albrecht with 16 points and Ella Poppinga with seven points. The Warbirds were led by Mya Boomsma with 18 points.

The Lady Bulldogs headed to Madison to meet up with the Arlington Cardinals for the Region 3B Semifinal game. De Smet fans filled the stands and made it loud, showing support for their Lady Bulldogs in a very rough and physical game.
The Cardinals struggled at getting good shots as the Lady Bulldogs played really well on the defensive end, causing Arlington to the turn the ball over. Arlington got into foul trouble early on in the game, which took them out of their rhythm. De Smet continued to move the ball well offensively, looking for the open shot and defensively out-rebounded the Cardinals 38-23.
With roughly a little over two minutes left in the game, the Cardinals played scrappy basketball, trying to get something to work on their end, but De Smet ended up at the free throw line, going 10/14. The Lady Bulldogs continued to make big stops defensively with Kennadi Buchholz blocking two shots and grabbing the rebounds on their missed shots. De Smet had the lead throughout the entire game, fighting hard until the end to finish on top.
The Lady Bulldogs were led by Buchholz with 16 points and 21 rebounds. Emma Albrecht contributed nine points, and Alyssa Asleson added six. The Cardinals were led by Harley Johnson with 18 points.
