Lake Preston and De Smet are both sending runners to the State Cross Country Meet. To qualify individually for the state meet, runners need to finish in the top 20 in their region. The top three boys and girls teams in each region also qualify for the state meet. This year’s meet will be held at Hart Ranch Camping Resort in Rapid City on Saturday, October 24. The B Girls begin at 10:00 a.m., and the B Boys run at 10:45 a.m.

The Bulldogs are sending a mix of experienced and novice runners this year. Senior Andrew Close is the lone boy runner for the Bulldogs and is making his first appearance at the state meet. He qualified by finishing 12th out of 44 runners. The girls team qualified by finishing 3rd. There are five girls on the team. Senior Carly Wiese will be making her 4th appearance at the state meet while eighth graders Mirra Beck and Alyssa Asleson are returning for their second trip to state. Seventh graders Megan Dylla and Aubree Blue are making their first appearances.

For the first time in school history (or as long as anyone can remember), Lake Preston is sending a boys team to the State Meet. The Divers finished 3rd and are sending four runners. They have a mix of experience levels with Senior Rhett McMasters making his fourth trip to state. Freshman AJ Wienk is making his second trip. Sophomore Ashton Wienk and Junior Tyler Jurrens will be going for their first times.

Best of luck to all runners!
