The end of an era — Divers play their last game

The Lake Preston Divers played their last basketball in Waverly on Feb. 28 in round 1 of Region 3 play. The Coyotes of Waverly-South Shore came out with a 52-19 win. The Divers kept the Coyotes within reach the first quarter, down 14-8. Waverly-South Shore pulled away in the second period and went to the locker room with a 31-14 lead. Third period action saw the Coyotes outscore the Divers 11-5.

The ball didn’t want to drop for the Divers, as they struggled to get something going after the first quarter. The Divers were led by Josh McMasters with 11 points while teammate Riley Casper added four points. Troy Kneeland and Carter Comes each contributed 11 points for the Coyotes.

Jake Larsen led the Divers with 6 of the team’s 20 rebounds. Grant Holmon came off the bench for the Coyotes to lead them with 8 of their 32 rebounds.

Turnover numbers were close, with the Divers having 20 turnovers while the Coyotes had 14. Casper had an impressive six blocked shots for the Divers, and Larsen had 2 of the team’s 7 steals. Coyote turnover and rebound stats are not official.
