Most Creative, First Place went to De Smet Community Church with a theme, Hark the Herald Angels Sing. The tree was topped with an ornate angel, and adorned with paper chains homemade star ornaments.

First Place for the silliest tree went to De Smet Flowers and Gifts for their tree with the theme, Home “Gnome” for the Holidays. The tree had Gnome Blvd. signs placed on the tree, and various gnomes hung from its branches.

2nd place silliest went to the LIW Memorial Society and a “Little House” theme. The tree was topped with a sun bonnet, two stockings hung from the lower branches and a prairie dress adorned the upper branches. Covers of the “Little House” books were hung.

Best of Themes, First Place went to Horizon Health Clinic and the tree with the theme, Honoring our Military. The tree was decorated with a patriotic theme, bios of those who served were scattered around the tree, and military boots were placed at the foot of the tree.

Merchants in De Smet donated Christmas baskets filled with goods or services available locally. Thirty-three baskets had been donated. Visitors bought tickets, put their name and phone number on them and then placed the tickets in the appropriate bag for the basket desired.
