1982: Ten graduate from Carthage HS


Trinity Lutheran Church will have Worship Service May 15 at 8 a.m. and Sunday School at 9 a.m. Looking ahead, the Sunday School will be leading the church service May 22 at 9:30 a.m. using the theme of “The A, B, C’s of Sunday School.” This will be the last Sunday of Sunday School. Bible School will be June 6 - 8 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Trinity Women of the ELCA will meet Thurs., May 19 at 2 p.m. at Lorelee Nelson’s.

Just a reminder that the library is open Saturdays from 2-4 p.m., and the museum is open Saturday and Sunday 1-5 p.m. or by appointment anytime.

Carthage welcomes a new business in town — The Petal Pushers Greenhouse. Has there ever been a greenhouse in Carthage?

Harriet Hattervig spent the weekend with Mark and Lisa Hinkley in De Smet having some medical appointments in De Smet.

Cindy Thompson recently hosted a cousin gathering at the Thompson family farm. Levi and Katherine Hattervig, Logan and Danielle Hattervig, Lucas Hattervig and Joni attended with other cousins of the Thompson family. David and Connie Hattervig and Mike and Carolyn Haag also joined them.

David and Connie Hattervig had an early birthday supper with Lucas and Levi Hattervig Wednesday in Sioux Falls.

Announcements are being made for entertainment at the S.D. State Fair for 2022.

According to The Carthage News, May 12, 1982, the grandstand shows for 1982 included Barbara Mandrell, Charley Pride, Larry Gatlin and the Gatlin Brothers Band and Rick Springfield with Danny Davis and The Nashville Brass at the Freedom Stage.

In the same paper there are ten seniors graduating from Carthage High School with Attorney General Mark Meierhenry as speaker. Julie Carter was the valedictorian, and Scott Morstad was the salutatorian.
