Boyd E. Nelson, 89, La Junta, Colo., passed away Thurs., July 15, at Evergreen Gardens, La Junta, Colo.
Boyd was born in De Smet, S.D., Oct. 19, 1931, a son of the late Eleanor M. (Klein) and Sidney A. Nelson.
He graduated from the De Smet Schools.
He served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean Conflict for four years.
Boyd worked for Boeing Aircraft in Seattle, Wash., four years; returned to De Smet and worked for Farmers Union, driving the rural bulk gas and fuel truck, then became the Manager for Cenex Co-Op until his retirement at the age of 55.
During his retirement he became a greenskeeper at the Kingsbury County Country Club, where he and his friends loved to play golf. Boyd also loved to fish, hunt and garden and was known for his beautiful gardens of vegetables and flowers.
Boyd moved to Colorado to be near his brother and family to enjoy the rest of his life and spend special time with them.
He is survived by a brother, Dennis, (Patricia) of Fowler, Colo; niece, Heather Nelson; nephews, Troy (Tammie) Nelson and Tracy (Amber) Nelson, all of Fowler, Colo.; nieces, Pegeen Nelson, Nancy Nelson and nephew, Darek Nelson all of Oregon; several great-nieces and nephews.
Boyd was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Keith Nelson and a sister-in-law, Joanne.
Per his request, there will be no local services. Inurnment will be private at a later time in the De Smet Cemetery, De Smet, S.D., next to his parents.
