The De Smet golfers traveled to Huron on May 13. The Broadland Creek Golf Course hosted the James Valley Conference 2021 Golf Invite. The golf course is 18 holes with a par 72. Play began at 10 a.m.
De Smet Boys’ Team took first place with a score of 264 in Thursday’s Invite. Seven teams competed in the Invite. James Valley Christian finished second with a score of 269, and Ipswich finished third with a 280.
In the individual scores, De Smet’s Rett Osthus placed seventh in the tournament with a score of 86, while Cody Cavanaugh placed eighth with an 88. Kasen Janssen placed tenth with a score of 90. Luke Peterson from Ipswich finished first with a score of 81. Sam Hansen, Great Plains Lutheran, finished second with a score of 82, and Chase McDonald from Chester finished third with an 84. There were 40 golfers competing.
De Smet’s girls competed along with seven other teams in the invitational. The Lady Bulldogs placed fourth with a team score of 357. Deubrook took first place with a score of 306, followed by Chester scoring a 306 as well, but losing out to the tiebreaker with Deubrook. James Valley Christian finished third with a score of 318.
In the individual scores, De Smet’s Harper Anderson finished tenth with a score of 107. James Valley Christian’s Olivia Rink took first place with a score of 92. Bailey Landmark scored a 93 and took second, with Ayla McDonald from Chester taking third place with a score of 95. There were 16 girls competing in the tournament.
