The De Smet Lady Bulldogs volleyball team lost Oct. 8 in four sets to the Oldham-Ramona-Rutland Lady Raiders at De Smet. Set scores were 23-25, 25-27, 25-15 and 21-25. Kennadi Buchholz served 21/23 with one ace, hit 46/53 with 12 kills, had 11 blocks and 21 digs. Cori Birkel hit 27/28 with eight kills, made nine blocks and 18 digs. Emma Albrecht served 11/11, hit five of seven with one kill, had six blocks and 38/40 sets with six assists. Katelynn Halverson set 38/44 with seven assists and Ella Poppinga served 18/20 with one ace and had 20 digs.
De Smet won Oct. 6 over the Lake Preston Lady Divers at Lake Preston. Set scores were 25-18, 25-9 and 25-13. Buchholz hit 30/33 with 20 kills, had five blocks. Birkel served 17/17 with one ace, hit 15/17 with four kills. Albrecht had one block, set 21/21 with 11 assists and had 10 digs. Halverson set 28/33 with 14 assists. Poppinga served nine of nine with one ace and had 10 digs and Olivia Johnson served six of seven and hit 10/13 with six kills.
Scores and stats from Tuesday's game in De Smet against the Hamlin Lady Chargers will be published next week. De Smet was scheduled to play Dell Rapids St. Mary in De Smet on Thursday, but because of COVID-19 among students and staff at DRSM, the game has been postponed. As of this writing, a new date hasn’t been set. De Smet is scheduled to play Saturday at home against Lake Preston at 9 a.m. and Oldham-Ramona-Rutland at 11:30 a.m.in DVC tournament play. On Oct. 20, the Lady Bulldogs travel to Castlewood to play the Lady Warriors. In observation of Breast Cancer Awareness month, the Castlewood team is hosting a “Dig Pink” event with several fundraising activities. Spectators are encouraged to wear pink. Proceeds will go to the Edith Sanford Breast Center and the Nick Ries family.
