Check out the town’s newest wings

Something new enhances the south wall of the Wards Store in downtown De Smet, angel wings. A trio, along with Patti Slater, made it happen.

“It was something I had thought about for several months,” said Mary Lee. “I knew of a couple girls that like to paint and enjoy art.”

The trio includes local students Mia Moerke, Brooke Jennings and Mary Lee.

“I spoke with both girls, and they were excited to try the idea of a set of angel wings,” said Lee.

The team researched different types of wings on Pinterest, agreeing this style would fit well on the wall. The challenge was to get the wings to look similar.

“Once the wings were in place, I told the girls we can always erase with the white paint and try again.”

Angel wings are thought of as a symbol of freedom and spirituality.

“I hope the girls had a good time,” said Lee “I liked the idea of having an investment of some of the young people of the community. I hope they are proud of the project.”

Hopefully, people will find that they are fun and will feel comfortable to enjoy and pose with the wings.
