Divers finally taste victory in win over Bulldogs

They say it is difficult to beat a team three times in a season, and that proved to be true this weekend as the Lake Preston Divers beat the DeSmet Bulldogs at the DVC tournament held in DeSmet on Saturday. The Divers came out strong, and never really lost momentum throughout the two-game match-up. The sets were decided 25-18 and 25-23.

Offensive Leaders were Alice Warne with 8 kills and one serving ace, followed by Annika Nelson gaining 6 kills, Holly Andrews with one kill and two serving aces, and Jocelyn Steffensen with two kills and two serving aces. Ava Malone and Steffensen were your digging leaders with 13 and 10 respectfully. And the morning match-up saw two successful blocks split by Warne and Nelson.

In the second bronze pool match, the Divers took on the Oldham-Ramona/Rutland Raiders. The Divers came out strong in this match as well, but they lost some steam and the Raiders inched ahead of the Divers and won the first set 25-22. The second set showcased a number of long volleys and was back and forth throughout the game. The Raiders again had a late set surge and pulled away from the Divers and won the deciding set 25-23.

Stats for the ORR game found Nelson in the kill lead with eight. Faith Steffensen contributed five kills and one serving ace. Morgan Curd got on the leader board with two ace serves. Defensively, the Divers were evenly spread, statistically speaking, with all players contributing. The Divers will be able to get a second shot at ORR when they travel to Ramona on Monday, October 26th for their last regular season game. They will host Estelline-Hendricks for Parents’ Night on Tuesday, October 20th. Post-season volleyball action will begin on Monday, November 2nd.
