Lake Preston vs Hamlin

The Entringer Classic looked different this year, but at least teams were still able to play. Due to COVID, teams were asked to play at different locations to avoid large crowds. The Divers traveled to the Hamlin Education Center to take on the Chargers on Dec. 31.

The Divers started off strong and were only behind by one point at the end of the first quarter with a score of 14 to 13. The half time score was 33 to 28 with the Divers still down and the Chargers leading by five points.

The 3rd quarter deemed a tough start of the second half for the Divers, as the Chargers took off and led by 18 points. The score at the end of the 3rd quarter was 49 to 37. After some tough defense and some key buckets, the Divers cut their lead down to eight but fell short with a final score of 70 to 60.

Carter Malone was the leading scorer with 21 points, six rebounds and three assists. Tate Larsen added 16 points and two rebounds. Riley Casper ended up with 10 points, four rebounds and two assists. Rhett McMasters scored eight points and had five rebounds. Jasper Denison had five points and eight rebounds.

“Even though we didn’t come out on top, I was very proud of the way our guys battled,” commented Coach Solberg. “They worked their tails off on defense. We got down by 18 in the 3rd and never gave up. We cut the lead to eight midway in the 4th.”

Coach Solberg also said the team needs to cut down on mistakes and be aggressive from the start.

“We look to bounce back before getting into the DVC Tournament in two weeks.”
