After coming out strong in their first two matches of the season, the Lake Preston Divers faltered in their match-up with the Dolphins of Deubrook. The Divers lost in three sets of 9-25, 17-25 and 9-25. After watching the Lake Preston Junior Varsity sweep the Deubrook JV squad in two exciting, adrenaline-pumping games that ended both with OT scores of 28-26, the Lake Preston Divers Varsity could not keep up the tempo. They allowed the undefeated Dolphins Varsity team to come back with a vengeance. Deubrook had several players with multiple kills and serving aces on the evening, causing Lake Preston to struggle early.
Senior Annika Nelson led the team in serving with three aces. Faith Steffensen, Ava Malone and eighth grader Hadlee Holt each had two kills apiece. Steffensen was credited with one block while her sister, Jocelyn Steffensen, had four set assists. Ava Malone was the defensive leader with ten digs. The Divers hope to regroup, refocus and come out strong after a week-long break. They will face the Castlewood Warriors Thursday night, Sept. 9th, in Lake Preston. Junior Varsity starts at 6:00 p.m. with varsity to follow. Middle school volleyball will start out the evening at 4:30. Come on out and support the Lake Preston Divers!
