Here come the I/LP Sharks!

Posted

The Lake Preston Divers and the Iroquois Chiefs have together formed the Iroquois/Lake Preston Sharks, beginning this upcoming 2022-2023 school year.

Jordan Solberg, Lake Preston Principal and Athletic Director, answered some questions on how this new co-op will work.

What sports are co-oped?

We have formed a cooperative in all sports this year.

Fall – competitive cheer, football, volleyball, cross country and sideline football cheer

Winter – boys basketball, girls basketball, sideline cheer; Iroquois will also be joining the Kingsbury County Knights wrestling cooperative

Spring – track and field and golf

What will be different?

The main difference will be splitting the home games and practices. All programs will benefit from this cooperative with the increase in participation. We will hopefully be having more lower-level teams to help build fundamentals and their skill sets.

Where will the games be played?

The seasons will be split as close to 50/50 as possible. For this first year, there will be three home games in Lake Preston for football and one in Iroquois. Iroquois will be starting some work on their football complex this year after their home game. We have moved a few other home games to try and even the games out.

Where will these games be livestreamed?

Lake Preston will livestream on Valley FiberCom.

Iroquois will livestream on liveticket.tv

Both will be free to stream.

What is the participation like from each school?

So far, the participation has been about 50/50 from each school. The coaches have done a great job being active this summer! There is some excitement in our school districts, and we cannot wait to get on the field, court and floor this fall!

Where will practices be held?

Practices will be held in both Iroquois and Lake Preston. Again, we will try and be as close to 50/50 as possible. Some practices will change based on scheduling conflicts and transportation.

What can you expect
from this year?

I think there will be a lot of excitement from both communities. So far, I have seen that our athletes are meshing well together. There have been formed relationships early, which I believe will help with some success in our new programs. There will also be a lot to learn from this first year. We know not everything will be perfect, but we are working hard to provide opportunities for our kids.

Will they be employed by both schools? One or the other?

Coaches will be hired from both schools. In all sports we have a coach hired from each community. Again, the dedication shown in the early stages of this cooperative has been great to see!

I also want to say thank you to both Lake Preston and Iroquois for showing support in the early stages. Our kids seem to be bought in, and I am excited to get our seasons going. Mr. Ruth and the Iroquois Administration have been fantastic to work with. It is a ton of work, but we will continue to communicate and work together. Go Sharks!
