Ice is almost ready for skating in park

This winter, De Smet will once again have a hockey rink. A group of interested youth from the Wellness Coalition, headed by Logan Griffith, presented the idea of a hockey rink to the City Council. The council agreed to the concept if the city did not incur any expenses, and the ball field was not disturbed.

Griffith quickly rallied the troops, and a rink was ready to use in short order. He was able to obtain the donation of a tarp from Prairie Ag. Larry Janish, John Blachford and Steve Wienk donated straw bales; Matt Kees donated hockey goals. Beth Poppen donated forty pairs of skates that can be checked out from the Event Center.

Ryan, Logan and Grant Griffith, Brian Lee and Kristy Hubbard have been busy setting up the rink and filling it with water. Soon, the ice will be ready. Sharpen your skates, dress warmly, fill a thermos with hot chocolate and come skate.
