Joyce E. (Lundquist) Jensen, 89, died on April 29, 2020. Funeral arrangements were made by Osthus Funeral Home in De Smet, S.D., and services were held on May 4, 2020, officiated by Rev. Bryan Taffe, with burial following in East Bethania Cemetery in rural Erwin, S.D.
Joyce was born Nov. 26, 1930, to Arthur and Minnie (Homuth) Lundquist in Erwin. She graduated from Erwin High School.
She married her husband Virgil Jensen on Nov. 26, 1949, at the parsonage in Bryant, S.D., and together they had five children.
Outside of the farm, Joyce took on factory work, drove Interlakes Community Action Bus, worked with the Lake Preston School District and served as a cook at Parkview Nursing Home.
Joyce was active in her church: teaching, leading and serving on service groups with the WELCA. She was also an active member of the Farmer’s Union, Erwin Auxiliary and Dakota Rural Action.
Joyce loved feeding and watching birds, along with drawing and painting, sewing, crocheting, gardening and reading.
She is survived by her children: sons, Bruce Jensen, and special friend Donna Brown, Sioux Falls, S.D.; Mark Jensen, Erwin, S.D.; Timothy Jensen, Erwin, S.D.; and daughter, Sandy (Ray) Cheney, Tea, S.D.; five grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren, three brothers, Kenneth (Barb) Lundquist, Sioux Falls, S.D.; Harlow Lundquist, Garretson, S.D.; and Larry Lundquist, De Smet, S.D.; and one sister, Gladys (Burton) Horsted, Sioux Falls, S.D.; a son-in-law, Mark Baumberger, Belgrade, Mont.; sisters-in-law: Geraldine Lommel, St. Cloud, Minn.; Donna Jensen, Lake Preston, S.D.; Margaret Jensen, Brookings, S.D.; Lorraine Hodges, Brookings, S.D.; Lisa Lundquist, Charlotte, N.C.; and Ann Lundquist, Gettysburg, S.D.; along with many nieces and nephews and other relatives.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Virgil; one daughter, Judith Baumberger; her parents; her brothers: Harold, Neal, Roy, Raymond, Stanley and Robert; and one sister, Esther Daily.
