Larry Gerome Gunderson, 72, of Lake Preston, passed away Friday, Nov. 13, 2020, after a month long battle with the Wuhan Covid virus, which was amplified by several other health issues.
Larry was born in Sioux Falls, S.D. on April 20, 1948, to Percy and Betty Gunderson. His childhood years were spent in South Dakota and Minnesota. In his early teen years, the family settled in Ellsworth, Wis. He had a passion for hunting, shooting and fishing. If it was done outdoors, Larry was willing to try it. Later in life his passion turned to trapshooting and sporting clays.
Larry and Mona were married March 15, 1969, before he left for Marine Corps boot camp. His enlistment lasted for two years. The couple and their family lived in various places and moved to Lake Preston, S.D. in 1983. His best times were spent with family; specifically, he loved camping, hunting, fishing, shooting and snowmobiling. He passed his interests to his children and grandchildren. When he was out-gunned by a family member, he would laugh and say that it was okay, because he was such a great coach and taught them well.
He is survived by his wife, Mona; his children, Michele (Ron) Smith of Brookings, S.D., Michael (Audra) Gunderson of Estelline, S.D. and Daniel (Jackie) Gunderson of Lake Preston, S.D.; his grandchildren, Kyle Coyle, Levi Smith, Jessica Smith, Mathew Smith, Megan Smith, Tate Gunderson, Ava Gunderson and Sawyer Gunderson; one brother, Randy (Lynn) Gunderson; three sisters, Nancy (Paul Drobney) Gunderson, Cathy (Lyle Hovda) Gunderson and Wendy (Bill) Cook; one sister-in-law, Jean Gunderson and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Terry.
His unconditional love for his family and his unwavering faith in our Lord Jesus Christ is his legacy to all.
