Paul Raymond Bickett, 69, Arlington, passed away Fri., April 29 at Brookings Health System, Brookings, S.D.
Paul was born Feb. 18, 1953, on the way to Madison Hospital to Stanley and Donna (Johnson) Bickett of Oldham, S.D. Paul attended 12 years of school at the Oldham School. After graduating Paul found his calling as a long-haul trucker. He spent many nights on the open road, including the night that he met Carol Shellabarger.
Paul was on his way home from one of those long road trips and happened to meet Carol; they fell in love and got married on Oct. 28, 1978. They purchased a home in Lake Preston, S.D., where they raised their family. Paul enjoyed working on his truck, yard work and gardening. He was an avid gardener who loved to try new kinds of vegetables.
As Paul's health began to decline, he was admitted into the Arlington nursing home in April 2016 until his passing.
Paul is best known for his shy demeanor, gardening skills and dislike for clothing.
Paul is survived by his son, Raymond (Jenny), their two children Remington and Jamison of Arlington; son, Ryan (Annie) of Lake Preston; brother, Mike (Connie) of Oldham; sister, Susan (Rick) Soma of Oldham; ex-wife, Carol; stepchildren, Patty and Sandy; several step grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Paul was preceded in death by his parents, Stanley and Donna Bickett; brother, Terry Bickett and stepson, Richard Schillinger.
Graveside services will be at 10:30 a.m. on Mon., May 16, 2022, at the Oldham City Cemetery.
