Duane and Doris Poppen of Aberdeen and Cork and Illdena Poppen attended the funeral of Alyce Siebrands, August 12, at First Reformed Church, Sioux Falls.

On Sun., Aug. 15 the 2nd Annual Sundae Drive and Prayer Run was held, beginning at Spirit Lake with ice cream and prayers. The motor run continued with cars, vintage cars and motorcycles to Iroquois at Trinity Methodist Church, proceeding to Carpenter Methodist, Willow Lake Gospel, Bethlehem Lutheran, Vienna, Our Redeemer Lutheran, Bryant and ended at Spirit Lake. Each church offered Scriptures, prayers and a treat.

Spirit Lake ended the drive with music from Wick’s trio, Michalski young men and Jerod Jordan. Ice cream was furnished, and Jordan offered the final prayer.

The Whitney Crabs were ready for harvest at the Cork Poppen farm. Cork and Illdena attempted to pick the fruit. A big struggle for two old people, but we managed to pick several pails.

Now the task of canning them. We like the whole little apples for sauce, so we proceeded to can them. Thirty quarts were preserved. A welcome sight on our shelves and the winter ahead.

I will admit the task was pretty tiring, but when there is a will, there is a way.
