Voters pass bond for new elementary

De Smet will be getting a new elementary school. The $9 million Laura Ingalls Wilder Elementary School bond vote passed on Tuesday with a 378 yes to 125 no vote.

The bond passed with 75% of the vote on a 38.7% voter turnout.

"This is an awesome example of how our community came together for the best interest of our students," said Abi VanRegenmorter, De Smet School Superentendent.

The new elementary school will be added on to the current high school building and will be able to share spaces such as the cafeteria, library, music and technology among other things.

The current building's future is yet to be determined.
