De Smet sophomore Damon Wilkinson is back on the basketball court after being shot Dec. 12 in a pheasant-hunting accident near Manchester. Wilkinson was airlifted to Sioux Falls where he had 58 BBs removed from his lower abdomen. The 6’7” center for the De Smet Bulldogs said he’s lucky he is as tall as he is.
Although his doctor put a few restrictions on him at first, WIlkinson was anxious to get back on the basketball court as soon as possible. He was back at practice as soon as he got the doctor’s okay and he played in a home game nine days after his accident, coming off the bench to score nine points against Dell Rapids St. Mary. The Bulldogs, and Wilkinson, have kept up with a full schedule since that game. And, with Tory Holland out this week, Wilkinson was a starter Tuesday in the home game against Deuel.
