Yvonne Marie Dobson, age 73, of De Smet, S.D., passed away Sept. 20 at the De Smet Good Samaritan Center after a 31-year battle with Parkinson’s disease. Yvonne was born July 9, 1948, to Merle and Carol (Reed) Knutson. She grew up on a small farm near Oldham before the family moved to a farm in Arlington.

She graduated from Arlington High School in 1966 before attending South Dakota State. In 1968, she transferred to Pillsbury Baptist Bible College where she reunited with her future husband, Dr. David Dobson, whom she had known since they were both in Junior High School. She and Dr. Dobson were united in Christian marriage on June 7, 1969, in Oldham, S.D. The couple farmed in Chancellor, S.D., for two years before moving to Inver Grove Heights, Minn., where Dr. Dobson earned his Doctor of Chiropractic while she worked caring for children. In 1982, Yvonne and her family moved to De Smet where Yvonne worked as the office manager at Dobson Chiropractic Clinic until moving into the De Smet Good Samaritan Center in 2018.

Yvonne was dedicated to her children and grandchildren, attending all school events and making sure every holiday and birthday was a special occasion. She loved to sew and cross-stitch, and she found so much joy in travelling—especially to Disney World in Florida—with her husband, children and grandchildren. She was an active member of the Christian Missionary Alliance in De Smet.

Yvonne is survived by her husband, Dr. David Dobson of De Smet, S.D.; daughter, Janee (Mike) Poppinga of De Smet, S.D.; daughter, Jennifer (Adam) Rudebusch of Castlewood, S.D.; son, Jeremy Dobson of Parker, Colo.; daughter, Julie Petersen of De Smet, S.D.; daughter-in-law, Tammy Dobson; 16 grandchildren and one great-granddaughter. She was preceded in death by her parents, Merle and Carol Knutson; her sister, Renae Hammerstrom and her son, James Dobson.

Funeral services for Yvonne will be on Fri., Sept. 24, 2021, at 2:00 p.m. at the Christian Missionary Alliance Church in De Smet with Pastor Mike Gunnon officiating; burial will be in Arlington City Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. on Thurs., Sept. 23, 2021, at the Johnson-Henry Funeral Home in Arlington and preceding services in the church on Friday.
