Shirley E. Lenz

Shirley Edna (Flindt) Lenz was born in De Smet, S.D., on Feb. 1, 1936, to Arthur and Edna (Anderson) Flindt.

She spent most of her youth in De Smet, graduating from De Smet High School in 1954. She moved to California, where she met and married Walter G. Lenz. They had three children, Linda, Karen and Gary. Shirley moved back to De Smet with her children in 1970. After having several careers, she retired from Lyle Signs in 1998.

She enjoyed quilting, painting her “village”, numerous crafts and Eastern Star, where she held several offices at the state and local levels. Shirley enjoyed traveling and spending time with family. She loved to spoil her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Grateful for having shared in her life are her children, Linda Lenz of Sammamish, Wash., Karen (Jodi) Hansen and Gary Lenz, both of De Smet; grandchildren, Shawn (Maria “Pia”) Hansen, Melissa (Chad) Lade and Chelsea (Jesse) Currier; great-grandchildren, Jace Hansen, Wyatt Lade, Kaiya Lade, Gracie Currier and Ty Currier.

Shirley was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Arthur (Jr) Flindt and one sister, Darlene Flindt. Her much loved grandson, Shawn, has now welcomed her to heaven.

Due to COVID restrictions, the family will have a private ceremony. There will be a visitation at Crawford-Osthus Funeral Chapel in De Smet on Sun., Aug. 22 from 5-7 p.m.
