The Iroquois Elementary Student Council collected donations to compile 14 Buddy Baskets for homeless and needy veterans in the local community. These Buddy Baskets were presented to the Iroquois American Legion Auxiliary Unit 280 for distribution on Feb. 28. Items included are blankets, towels, toilet paper, paper towels, dish soap, laundry soap, hand soap and much more. Iroquois FCCLA members Lily Blue and Kasey Burmeister have been working with kindergarten students, teaching them how to play board games. The members taught kindergarteners how to play Go Fish, Chutes and Ladders, Guess Who and Connect 4. This is part of the FCCLA Star Event Focus on Children that Lily and Kasey will present at the State Leadership Conference in Sioux Falls, April 10-12.

Iroquois Elementary celebrated the 100th day of school Thursday. Preschool through fifth grade started their day with 100 exercises in the gym led by Ms. Hunt and the fifth grade class. This was followed by 100 seconds of silence. Other 100th day activities were planned in individual classrooms.

Iroquois Elementary preschoolers Isabelle Rose, left, Lanna Houghtaling and Daxton Frankfurth love playing in their milk-jug igloo. Staff members began saving gallon jugs in October for this fun project, the perfect place to hide, read a book or just gather with friends.

Iroquois preschoolers have been caring for and watching their mitten tree grow over the past few weeks. As the mittens grew and ripened, they began to fall off the tree. Last Thursday, the children got to pick a pair of mittens to take home. The happy faces express the excitement that filled the room.
